There are times when terrible things can happen to special people. And sometimes, these people turn their misfortune into an opportunity to help others. Men and women of the HVAC industry know a man who did just that. His name is Joe Groh, and he lives here in the DFW area.
Joe worked in the HVAC industry for close to 30 years before a biking accident rendered him paralyzed from the neck down. Despite his immobility, Joe wanted to stay connected in the HVAC industry, so he started the Joseph Groh Foundation. The foundation works with companies in the construction trades industries, including plumbing, HVAC, electrical and roofing, to supply short and long-term disability insurance for their employees. It also is an information vehicle on spinal cord injuries.
The Joseph Groh Foundation also offers financial assistance to those in the industry or their family members who have suffered a life varying injury or illness. Recipients have used money from the foundation in various ways, for instance making homes wheel chair accessible by widening doorways, adding access ramps, redoing flooring and purchasing adaptive equipment. To meet financial assistance requests, the foundation holds a variety of fundraisers year-round.
Midway Services regularly supports Joe and his mission to help others in the HVAC industry that have been impacted by a life altering accident and was proud to sponsor one of the Joseph Groh Foundation’s recent golf tournament fundraisers. The Service Experts Tournament for the Joseph Groh Foundation took place at Coyote Ridge Golf Club in the Dallas TX metro area on May 4. With 131 golfers on the links this year, the tournament raised more than $52,000.
“We are proud to support Joe and his efforts to assist others with his real life message of inspiring hope through adversity,” says Scott Boxer, CEO and President of Service Experts. “Whether it’s in Clearwater or the nearly 85 markets across North America, Service Experts is committed to the communities we serve.”
While Midway Services supports a number of charities and organizations across Clearwater, we’re extremely proud to give back to organizations in the HVAC industry. To learn more about the Joseph Groh Foundation, visit josephgrohfoundation.org.
