Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season
Summer isn’t here yet but the temperatures are definitely increasing and that means it’s time for A/C season. Before the temperatures soar and you’re running your air conditioner constantly to stay comfortable, don’t forget to call your AC maintenance technician to come out and conduct your annual ac maintenance.
In addition to an AC system tune-up, there are several other ways you can prepare for the cooling season before warmer weather is officially here to stay.
- Clean Your System
We don’t mean for you to take you’re A/C system apart, let an expert do that, but you can clean up the space around your A/C to get rid of sticks and debris that have made their way to your A/C system during the windy winter and stormy spring. Cut the grass around the A/C and prune back any overgrown shrubs or vegetation to make sure your cooling equipment is clear of debris. Clearing the air way can help keep your air conditioning unit running properly.
· Change Your Home’s Air Filters
Midway Services will change your home’s basic air filters when they complete your seasonal tune-up as part of your regular A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also swap out your HVAC air filters by yourself, and it’s advised that you do so at least every four to eight weeks for optimal performance. If you don’t replace your filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of you and your loved ones and the efficiency of your air conditioner, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your standard air conditioning service. Note that a clogged filter could possibly damage your AC equipment.
- Block the Sun
Help keep your home cooler by hanging blackout drapes or window shades to help keep the sun from heating up your home. Hanging drapes or curtains may also help save your furniture and floors from fading or enduring sun damage over time.
· Check Alarm Batteries
If you forgot to check the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors over daylight savings, now is the time. Remember to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is running properly so you don’t end up calling an AC service technician because your system isn’t turning on and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider purchasing a smart thermostat so you can adjust the temperature remotely and save money on your heating and cooling bills.
A seasonal A/C system tune-up service could make your system up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your utility bills. Call Midway Services today to make sure your air conditioner is set to keep you cool and comfortable all summer and find out about our spring specials on air conditioning tune-ups.
