5 Signs You Need a New Water Heater

You might be amazed at how easy it is to forget about your water heater’s age, or how difficult it can be to notice an issue before it results in damage.

There are several signs that you can take advantage of to monitor the state of your water heater. You’ll want to be alert for them to keep your equipment in the top shape.

Here are five potential signs it could be time to replace your water heater in the U.S..

1. It’s Starting to Show Its Age

Much like the other crucial appliances inside your home, your water heater has a clear lifetime. When it approaches the end, it will work much less efficiently and can be pricier to fix than replacing it.

The average water heater lifetime is around six to eight years. You won’t want your water heater to be around for past 10 years, because this might result in pricey damage in your home if it leaks.

There’s always a possibility for your water heater to run into problems prior to this time, so pay attention to anything that feels odd.

2. Rust is Starting to Show

Rust is usually an indication your water heater needs to be inspected. Rust is corrosive and may quickly expand to other parts. This can create a leak or other malfunctions. If you see a bit on the tank or pipes, call a licensed professional.

3. There’s No More Warm Water

If your water heater is straining to heat water, that’s an apparent sign an upgrade is needed. Your heater may not be able to deliver any hot water because of sediment. The tank capacity could also be insufficient for the capacity of water your household requires.

This is very true for larger residences. The quicker you deplete hot water, the more crucial it is to think over getting a new one.

4. You’re Hearing Odd Noises

Your water heater isn’t silent. If you notice banging noises coming from the tank on a frequent basis, that could indicate a piece isn’t tight.

Strange sounds can also mean there’s junk building up inside the tank’s base. Large amounts of buildup may force your water heater to work harder and increase your energy expenses as a result.

Listen intently if you are starting to hear any unusual noises, and give us a call right away.

5. Surprise Leaks

If you discover puddles or dark patches near your water heater, it’s a good time to evaluate buying an updated unit ASAP.

These leaks are usually created by little cracks in the tank itself. The longer you postpone it, the more likely you’ll run into a dilemma when the tank malfunctions. (You can avoid a messy tank malfunction down the road by upgrading to a tankless water heater, which doesn’t hold water.)

Water damage is pricey to repair and a trouble you shouldn’t have to worry about.
